Oscar-winning actor Joel Grey has sold his light-filled NYC home for $7.6M — $100K over ask

A stunning West Village condo by architect and developer Cary Tamarkin has sold for $7.6 million — $100,000 above its asking price — according to city property records.

The seller was Oscar- and Tony Award-winning actor and director Joel Grey, 92, who is also the father of actress Jennifer Grey. News of the deal was first reported by Mansion Global.

Grey bought the apartment, at 495 West St., for $1.57 million in 1999 — a year after the building launched.

The buyer is hidden behind an LA-based shell company, Bring it Hudson LLC.

Celebrity portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz sold her unit in this same building, which is between Jane and West 12th streets, for $8 million last year, as Gimme Shelter exclusively reported. She bought it for $6.5 million in 2022.

Grey, meanwhile, made his name as Master of Ceremonies in “Cabaret,” the original 1966 Broadway production and the 1972 film starring Liza Minnelli. He also directed a Yiddish production of “Fiddler on the Roof,” among other works.

The modern, full-floor unit is 3,068 square feet with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, although Grey had transformed the space into a one-bedroom apartment with a studio.

The dwelling opens from two keyed elevators that lead to a large foyer and a 2,000-square-foot living area, including an open chef’s kitchen. There are also 64 feet of steel casement windows overlooking Hudson River Park.

The main bedroom comes with a large walk-in closet and a spa-like bath. The 11-story building overall has just nine units on the water, with doorman service.

The listing brokers were Corcoran’s Tamer Howard and Philip Tabor.
