Mayor Eric Adams’ criminal corruption charges should be dismissed without any potential to be refiled, the lawyer tasked with reviewing the federal case recommended Friday.
Former US Solicitor General Paul Clement wrote in a 33-page filing that Hizzoner’s case should be dismissed with prejudice based on the legal arguments brought by President Trump’s Department of Justice.
Clement was asked by Manhattan federal court Judge Dale Ho last month to argue against the DOJ dismissal motion —which was pushed by Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove, who was Trump’s criminal defense lawyer.
Bove’s order to dismiss “without prejudice” meaning the case could come back later, led to political backlash for Adams from critics who said he’d be at the mercy of Trump.
It also led to an exodus of a number of prosecutors who worked on the case in DC as well as the Southern District of New York, including interim leader Danielle Sassoon, who accused Adams and Trump’s camp of engaging in a corrupt “quid pro quo.”
