Maybe one of the reasons that Cuylle reminds me of Steve Vickers is that the latter winger, selected 10th overall in 1971, is the only forward ever drafted by the Rangers to make an NHL All-NHL squad, as No. 8 did in 1974-75 for the second team following a 41-48-89 season.

The 23-year-old Cuylle’s statistics may not quite track that way but his ascension into a steady top-six role for Peter Laviolette, a coach who generally favors veterans, is noteworthy.
