It’s time for AEW to consider restructuring its championships — adding one while losing another because they probably have too many already.
The idea of having three mid-card championships feels imprudent, especially when the Continental championship was created only for the two-year-old annual tournament.
Having that plus the TNT championship and International championship feels like it’s taken the luster off of the former. The TNT championship, which dates back to the start of the company, should carry WWE Intercontinental championship-level prestige in AEW.
They all feel interchangeable at this point and you can make the case the Continental championship — the youngest of the three — means more because Kazuchika Okada is holding it.
