Truckload of curly fries goes up in flames on busy highway

These fries are gonna be extra crispy.

A truckload of curly fries went up in flames on a Maine highway on Monday, snaring traffic and no doubt ruining more than one burger-joint meal somewhere in the Pine Tree State.

The York Fire Department received more than 30 911 calls over the French-fried fiasco on Interstate-95 southbound in the town of Kittery around 2:40 p.m., where they found a tractor trailer fully engulfed in fire, the department said in a Facebook post.

“It was quickly determined that the cargo was frozen curly fries and not a hazardous material,” the York department said in the post. “The trailer and the cargo were a total loss.”

Firefighters needed 6,000 gallons of water to douse the flames.

No one was peeling out on the interstate as raffic backed up for several hours, although no one was injured in the mishap, state police said.
