If you’re hoping to step into Christian Grey’s sultry world of luxury and excess — keep in mind the realm of fiction is indeed just that.
The Seattle penthouse that served as Grey’s home in the buzzy “Fifty Shades of Grey” books and movies has hit the market for $11.5 million, according to a press release — but don’t expect secret rooms, biometric locks or a rooftop terrace straight out of E.L. James’ fantasy.
The 5,180-square-foot aerie in the exclusive Escala building may have lent its exterior to the movies, but the similarities end there.
Unlike the over-the-top 30,000-square-foot bachelor pad of Christian Grey’s imagination, this residence is more refined elegance than BDSM playground.
For fans of the books, Christian Grey’s fictional penthouse at “Penthouse 4004” was a palace in the sky, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows, a private elevator and, of course, the infamous Red Room.
In reality? The actual penthouse is a well-appointed three-bedroom, four-bath retreat featuring sophisticated design elements like plaster relief walls, handmade Moroccan tiles and an Ipe-clad walk-in shower.
While Grey’s fictional residence boasted cutting-edge security features, including biometric entry and an army of surveillance cameras, this penthouse sticks to real-world luxury — think 24-hour concierge service, a state-of-the-art gym, two swim spas and an exclusive owners’ lounge.
Perched on the 30th floor of Escala, this nest offers sweeping 180-degree views of Elliott Bay, the snow-capped Olympic Mountains and Seattle’s glittering skyline.
Designed by NB Design Group, the space has been meticulously curated for discerning buyers who appreciate craftsmanship over cinematic embellishments.
The open-concept floor plan includes a chef’s kitchen, a hidden butler’s pantry and custom finishes throughout.
And unlike Grey’s fictional pad, there’s no grand piano waiting to be played during brooding monologues, but there is a private vestibule entry and four premium parking spots — because in the real world, parking in downtown Seattle is just as valuable as a private helicopter.
Phil Greely of the Agency Seattle holds the listing.
Since “Fifty Shades of Grey” catapulted Escala into pop culture fame, curious fans have flocked to the building, hoping to catch a glimpse of Christian Grey’s extravagant lifestyle.
But despite the hype, the actual penthouse was never used for filming — its interiors were built on a soundstage.
