Saquon Barkley wasn’t happy that Taylor Swift was booed at Super Bowl 2025.
The Eagles’ star running back explained that he didn’t understand why the pop star, who’s dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, didn’t receive a warm welcome from fans in New Orleans after all the good she’s done for the NFL.
“I will say this though. You know, I remember that they showed her on the jumbotron and she got booed,” Barkley, 28, said during an interview on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” on Wednesday. “I don’t get it. I don’t get why she was getting hate there.
“She’s there supporting her significant other and she’s made the game bigger. You know, we’re all about, in football, we’re all about, you know, how can we expand the game and make it more, you know, internationally and we’re traveling to Brazil and we’re traveling to Mexico, and you know, apparently we’re traveling to Australia soon, so we’re trying to expand the game and, you know, her being a part of it’s only helping that, so I don’t get the slack that she’s getting.”
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell previously gave his stamp of approval for Kelce and Swift’s whirlwind romance — and he praised the singer for bringing her fan base to the league, which saw an uptick in attendance and revenue.
Barkley recalled Swift being booed after Stern asked if he thinks Kelce is going to marry the 14-time Grammy winner.
“I have no idea,” said Barkley, who’s been on a media tour since Philadelphia’s 40-22 rout of Kansas City, which took place on his 28th birthday.
During Super Bowl media week, Kelce was pressed by reporters with questions about a potential engagement with Swift two years into their relationship.
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” Kelce, 35, said with a smile when asked if he planned to propose to the “Fortnight” singer.
Swift supported Kelce from a private suite in New Orleans, which included rapper Ice Spice and the Haim sisters, Danielle and Este.
The couple, who’s been dating since the summer of 2023, were not photographed after the Chiefs’ loss.
Kelce went back to his hotel and laid low, Page Six reported.
The Eagles’ redeemed themselves after a crushing 38-35 loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl 2023.
Barkley finished with 57 rushing yards after accumulating 442 yards in the Eagles’ first three playoff wins.
The 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year set a league record with 2,504 rushing yards this season, including the playoffs.
Barkley added that he’s looking forward to wedding planning with his fiancée Anna Congdon, whom he’s been with since college.
He announced their engagement earlier this month.
The couple are parents to daughter Jada, 6, and son Saquon Jr., 2.
