Billie Eilish performed her smash hit “Birds of a Feather” from her 2024 album, “Hit Me Hard and Soft,” at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday night.
The multifaceted singer-songwriter and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, took the stage during music’s biggest night and wowed the crowd of A-list artists in front of a picturesque backdrop of her hometown of Los Angeles, which was recently ravaged by wildfires.
For her set, Eilish wore an oversized yellow jersey, baggy jeans and a blue LA Dodgers cap after walking the red carpet in a black-and-white Prada ensemble.
The musician was nominated for a whopping seven awards this year.
“Birds of a Feather” served as the second single from “Hit Me Hard and Soft” following “Lunch,” a lesbian anthem that Eilish started writing “before even doing anything with a girl and then wrote the rest after,” she told Rolling Stone for her May 2024 cover story, admitting that it helped her “become” who she is today.
“I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life, but I just didn’t understand until last year,” she explained.
Since then, Eilish — who was in a relationship with Neighbourhood rocker Jesse Rutherford before coming out as queer — has sworn off discussing the intimate details of her life.
“I wish no one knew anything about my sexuality or anything about my dating life. Ever, ever, ever. And I hope that they never will again,” she stated in a Vogue November 2024 cover story.
“And I’m never talking about my sexuality ever again. And I’m never talking about who I’m dating ever again.”
In the same interview, the 23-year-old confessed, “I’ve never felt like a woman, to be honest with you. I’ve never felt desirable. I’ve never felt feminine. I have to convince myself that I’m, like, a pretty girl.”
She added, “I identify as ‘she/her’ and things like that, but I’ve never really felt like a girl.”
At the year’s end, Eilish revealed to Vanity Fair that she had achieved her 2024 goal of having “a lot of good sex” — but did not elaborate.
Even if she had walked away empty-handed Sunday, Eilish has already commemorated her third studio album with the words “Hard & Soft” tattooed across her hip.
The vocalist committed to various schoolgirl-inspired ensembles for last year’s awards show season, and the Grammys was no different.
She showed her “Barbie” pride on both the red carpet and the stage, where she serenaded the audience of her peers with her “Barbie” movie song, “What Was I Made For?”
That same night, Eilish took home two of her six nominations, including song of the year and best song written for visual media for the 2023 track.
