‘Queen of Versailles’ shows progress inside her 90,000-square-foot megamansion — after 21 years of construction

After more than 20 years of construction, Jackie Siegel’s jaw-dropping 90,000-square-foot Florida estate — dubbed Versailles — is finally approaching the finish line.

The 59-year-old “Queen of Versailles” star shared a video update on Instagram this week, showing off the latest progress on her and husband David Siegel’s sprawling megamansion, which has been plagued by delays for decades.

“Well, I’m over at Versailles and we’re getting closer,” she announced while filming the estate’s grand staircases and massive interior. “We’re getting closer to getting done.”

“There’s still a little bit of work,” she said as she made her way towards the elevator.

Though opulent gold detailing and a lavish chandelier were visible in the background, the space remained a construction zone, with scaffolding, missing railings and workers actively making adjustments.

The extravagant estate — one of the largest and most expensive private residences in the country — boasts 14 bedrooms, 30 bathrooms, five kitchens, a 150-person dining hall, a British-style pub and a 35-car garage.

It even includes a faux private jet interior, where Jackie once said she planned to sip Champagne and eat caviar. Construction on Versailles first began in 2004 in Orange County’s exclusive Lake Butler Sound community.

However, when the 2008 financial crisis hit, David’s timeshare empire, Westgate Resorts, took a massive financial hit, forcing the couple to halt work on the project.

At one point, the unfinished mansion was listed for $65 million. But after the release of the critically acclaimed 2012 documentary “The Queen of Versailles,” which chronicled the Siegels’ lavish lifestyle and financial struggles, interest in the project soared.

The mansion will occupy 90,000 square feet.

David’s business eventually recovered, allowing them to resume construction in 2013. But the completion date has remained elusive, shifting from 2016 to 2020, and then again after Hurricane Ian caused an estimated $10 million in damage in 2022.

“It makes me so sad,” Jackie told People at the time of the flooding. “Me and the boys worked so hard to get to where we were. I am very shaken up.”

Despite the setbacks, Jackie remains optimistic about reaching the finish line.

“You guys! 💋 I know many of you have been curious about Versailles, so here’s a little peek! 🏰 We’re getting closer… ❤️👸💋,” she captioned her Instagram post.

With no official completion date in sight, the estate, estimated to be worth more than $100 million, according to Jackie, continues to be a work in progress. But one thing’s for sure — if Versailles ever gets finished, it will stand as the largest single-family home in the US.
