Prince Andrew’s Royal Lodge in a ‘shocking state’ as duke does his own gardening to save money

Prince Andrew is rolling his sleeves up.

The disgraced Duke of York, 64, has kept himself busy by attempting to maintain the 21 acres of garden that surrounds Royal Lodge.

Andrew, who was poised to leave the Royal Lodge after Charles refused to continue financially carrying his brother’s weight, is trying to pinch a few pennies by developing a green thumb.

“It is in a shocking state,” Todd Longstaffe Gowan, the Historic Royal Palaces gardener, told the Daily Mail of the mansion’s worse-for-wear garden.

“I won’t be knocking that into shape. It is impossible. I’ve been at Kensington Palace for 30 years and I think Royal Lodge would be quite impossible.”

But despite Andrew’s best efforts, the garden is still looking rough and the flowers that once bloomed on the grounds of Windsor Castle are nowhere to be seen.

Instead, the 30-room mansion is surrounded by shrubbery and woodland, insiders say.

Inside the residence, a similar thing is taking place.

Over the last few weeks, King Charles has reportedly kickstarted the process of removing precious artifacts from Andrew’s home due to maintenance and security concerns.

The move means that the former working royal’s property now boasts empty shelves where pricy items were once displayed.

Andrew has resided at the sprawling property since 2004. He currently lives there with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.

Andrew narrowly avoided eviction from the lavish estate last year after finding a mystery financial backer at the eleventh hour.

He has since faced calls from the UK government to reveal the source of his newfound funding.

Exactly where the Duke of York got the funding to remain at the property is still unclear — his only known steady income source is a Royal Navy pension.

As for his ex-wife, Ferguson is also refusing to talk about the plush royal digs.

Earlier this month, Fergie walked out of an interview after she was asked whether she would be moving out of the Royal Lodge.

While Andrew has also attempted to keep a low profile since being plagued with a string of controversies, the king’s younger brother was spotted on the Windsor estate earlier this week.

His outing marked the first time he was seen since his business adviser was accused of being a Chinese spy.

The controversy came hot on the heels of another shocker, which saw the financial firm managing his private investments shut down.

Andrew was then reported to the police and accused of using a fake name to register a company.

Days later, the disgraced duke was snubbed from a royal dinner held at Windsor Castle on Jan. 9 — despite living on the grounds of the castle.
