American Airlines grounded flights nationwide on Christmas Eve over technical issue before rescinding stop in holiday travel misery for thousands

American Airlines mysteriously issued a temporary ground stop on all US flights early Tuesday, causing a short-lived scare for thousands flying for the holidays on Christmas Eve.

The airline warned travelers just after 6:30 that it was “experiencing a technical issue with all American flights,” without elaborating.

Before that, the company had been replying to distressed travelers raising their plight on social media.

“An estimated timeframe has not been provided, but they’re trying to fix it in the shortest possible time,” the company had said in a post on X, responding to a question from a stranded flyer.
