A driver fleeing police crashed his car into a mall in Texas, causing a mass emergency response with reports of multiple injuries.
Dozens of police and emergency vehicles were seen responding to the Killeen Mall, 80 miles north of Austin, at 5:40 p.m. Saturday.
It wasn’t clear how many people were hurt or how the chase started, but police said on Facebook that the incident was under control.
“The area is secure at this time,” Killeen police posted to their Facebook page.
“We ask that you avoid the area as first responders conduct their investigation.”
A spokesperson for the Killeen Police Department said that a chase that started in Belton ended with the crash at the mall.
The mall parking lot can be seen swarming with emergency response vehicles in a video posted to X.
Police also shot down rumors on social media that there was an active shooter.
“There is no active shooter at the Killeen Mall. DPS, KFD and KPD are currently on scene investigating this incident. The area is secure and we urge citizens to stay away from the Killeen Mall at this time,” the cops said on Facebook.
The investigation is ongoing.
