The historic numbers behind the Islanders’ failures on special teams

The data backs up the eye test.

The Islanders indeed might have the worst special teams in NHL history.

After the slate of games on Tuesday, when the Isles went scoreless on the power play while giving up a goal on the penalty kill in a 4-0 loss to the Hurricanes, the Isles ranked 32nd in the league for both specialty units with an abysmal 12.09 power-play percentage and 64.29 penalty-kill percentage.

Not only are they the worst in the league in 2024-25, but by at least one metric, they’re on pace to be the worst in recorded history.
