Drew Lock left the field Sunday and headed into the X-ray room inside MetLife Stadium.
He was sacked just twice in 49 pass attempts but was on the move, running for cover, and he took a pounding.
The Saints put 13 hits on him as the Giants lost their eighth straight game, falling 14-11.
Lock said he was not hurt badly.
“Just a couple bumps and bruises for right now,” he said afterward, adding the medical staff is going to “look at some stuff [Monday] morning.’’
Lock was all over the place in his second start for the Giants.
He started out 0-for-8 and ended the first half 6-for-19 for 52 yards, incapable of generating any sort of forward motion for the offense.
He used his legs in the second half and heated up — a bit.
He finished 21-for-49 for 227 yards and one interception.
A fourth-quarter drive produced the Giants’ lone touchdown, and he got his team within a 35-yard field goal (it was blocked) to force overtime.
The first half bothered him.
“Just missed some easy ones,’’ Lock said. “It’s one of those halves where you’re going to go back and be frustrated. They were giving us some stuff and just didn’t maximize the opportunities they gave us. You know as the quarterback and how I feel, it’s the classic shooting myself in the foot. Lots of plays where we had opportunities and didn’t take them, didn’t make them.”
It happened.
CB Trey Hawkins leaped in the third quarter and came down with the ball on a pass thrown by Derek Carr.
That is called an interception, and it was the first for the Giants since Week 1.
The 11 consecutive games without a pick was an ignominious NFL record.
“The line made him throw it up like that, so it kind of worked hand in hand,” Hawkins said.
Tommy DeVito came in for one snap early in the fourth quarter. He handed the ball off to Tyrone Tracy.
“We had a few plays for Tommy this game,” head coach Brian Daboll said. “We only got to the one. It happened to be a kind of zone read, but it wasn’t just all zone reads. It was a few plays in there.” … C John Michael Schmitz was forced out in the fourth quarter with a neck injury, missing his first snaps of the season. Veteran G Greg Van Roten moved over to play center. … LG Jon Runyan Jr. had to come off the field with a sprained ankle. He does not believe it is a high ankle sprain. “My feeling is I’ll be fine,” Runyan said. “I don’t think it will be long term.”
CB Deonte Banks missed his second consecutive game with an injury to his rib. … LB Bobby Okereke (back) missed his first game in his two seasons with the Giants. … Rookie CB Dru Phillips, having a strong first NFL season, was inactive for the second time, down with a shoulder injury.
