Bill Belichick’s North Carolina decision coming soon as he’s confused by NFL coaching carousel

All eyes are on Bill Belichick.

The free agent NFL coach, 72, had multiple interviews for the vacant head coach job at the University of North Carolina, including a five-hour meeting with UNC brass on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

“He definitely is considering it and there are other candidates that have been dropping out of the North Carolina race… it’s in play,” Schefter said during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday.

Belichick, who appeared on the show after Schefter, confirmed that he’s met with the Tar Heels.

“I’ve had the opportunity to talk to Chancellor [Lee] Roberts, and we’ve had a couple of good conversations, so we’ll see how it goes,” Belichick said.

He played coy when McAfee asked if the meeting went on for five hours.

“Yeah, listen let’s leave it at that — I don’t want to say too much information,” Belichick said, smiling. “I want to get my press conference rapport back.”

Belichick — who took on a variety of broadcasting jobs since parting ways with the Patriots in January — is expected to reveal his decision soon, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported on Monday.

Belichick has made it clear he wants to coach in 2025.

The eight-time Super Bowl winner is “very surprised” that he has yet to hear from NFL teams about coaching next season, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

Belichick reportedly hasn’t been contacted by the Jets, the Saints, and the Bears, who have already fired their head coaches this season.

He interviewed last offseason for the Falcons job, which ultimately went to Raheem Morris.

On Monday, Belichick’s 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson entered the chat.

Hudson replied to someone that said, “Tell Bill to come to UNC!!” in a comment on her latest instagram post, which featured a holiday snapshot of the couple.

“I’ll pass the message along… 😉🩵,” Hudson wrote, including a winking face emoji and a blue heart emoji.

Belichick interview with the Tar Heels is his first known meeting at the college level since his breakup with the Patriots.

The news came hours after he and Hudson made their first red carpet appearance at The Museum Gala in New York City last Thursday.

It also came as a surprise to many, as it was initially believed it would be NFL or bust in terms of his coaching future.

The ESPN personality has a history with UNC, as his father Steve Belichick was an assistant coach at Chapel Hill.

McAfee featured a photo of Belichick as a young kid sitting on the bleachers at UNC during his show on Monday.
