Glare, fatigue or distraction could possibly be factors for the accident, police said.
A young woman lost her life in a collision between three vehicles, including a heavy truck, on Highway 55 in Bécancour, in the Centre-du-Québec region.
Emergency services were called to intervene Friday morning, shortly after 8 a.m., where Highway 55 crosses Forest Road, in the St-Grégoire sector.
According to initial information obtained from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the driver of the car entered Highway 55 north from Forest Road, without realizing she was crossing the path of a heavy truck that rear-ended her car.
The victim’s vehicle then ended up in the opposite lane, where it also collided with a van.
“There is a possibility of glare, fatigue or distraction to explain this manoeuvre,” the SQ indicated in a press release.
The truck driver was not injured, but the two other drivers were taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries.
The death of the driver of the car, a woman in her mid-20s, was announced shortly before noon and the life of the driver of the minivan was no longer in danger.
The area was closed to traffic for several hours to allow SQ officers to analyze the scene.
The SQ investigation is continuing.
