Thom Christopher, the actor known for his work on the soap opera “One Life to Live,” has died.
Christopher passed away on Thursday in New York at the age of 84.
The star played villain Carlo Hesser on 56 episodes of popular soap from 1991 until 2008.
His former co-star Anthony Crivello confirmed the death of his “dear friend of many years” in a heartfelt post on Facebook.
“He was always a gentleman, always supportive, and he and his wife Judith who proceeded him in death, where [sic] always gracious to me and welcoming,” Crivello captioned two photos with Christopher.
Christopher’s wife Judith died in 2019 at the age 88.
“Thom and I worked together on the #abc daytime series #onelifetolive in the 1990s. We’re seen here with the lovely #audrylanders who played my sister, and Thom my father.”
He added, “It was a wonderful time, difficult hours and long days, but joyful each minute.”
“May Thom fly on Wings of Angels to be beside his beloved Judith, and may they enjoy each other’s company once again, beside the ‘Pearly Gates’ of heaven,” Crivello concluded his post.
Christopher’s work on “One Life to Live” won him a Daytime Emmy Award in 1992 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
The following year, he earned two Daytime Emmy nominations in that same category, one for his role as Carlos Hesser on “One Life to Live,” and one for Dante Partou on the soap “Loving,” though he didn’t end up winning for either.
Over the course of his career, he also appeared on the soap operas “Guiding Light,” and “The Edge of Night,” and booked guest star roles on popular primetime series such as “T.J. Hooker,” “Murder, She Wrote,” and “Law & Order.”
Born on October 5, 1940 in Queens, New York, Christopher attended Ithaca College before studying acting at New York’s famed Neighborhood Playhouse.
He began his professional life as an actor in the 1970s, landing roles in two Broadway plays, as Felix “Noël Coward in Two Keys” (1974) opposite Anne Baxter and Jessica Tandy, and as Apollodorus in George Bernard Shaw’s “Caesar and Cleopatra” (1977), starring Rex Harrison as Julius Caesar (a role he also played in the 1963 Elizabeth Taylor film “Cleopatra”).
This is a developing story.
