Nicole Richie says she’s “transparent” with her teen kids about “everything” she did as a wild child.
During an interview with Glamour, the socialite, who shares daughter Harlow, 17, and son Sparrow, 15, with husband Joel Madden, said it’s “so wild and fun” raising teens today.
“I just so clearly remember what it’s like to be a teenager. It feels like it happened yesterday for me. And they know everything I did,” she shared.
“I knew before I had them that I was going to have to be transparent with them about who I was. And I’ve actually found freedom in that.”
Richie, 43, said she didn’t want her “kids having some big discovery” about her life later on when they were old enough to read about it online.
“I’ve always been very open and honest with my kids and hope that they are open and honest with me,” she shared.
The “Simple Life” star has mostly kept her daughter and son, whom she welcomed in 2008 and 2009, respectively, out of the spotlight.
However, the teens made their first red carpet debut alongside their famous parents for the Los Angeles premiere of “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead” in April.
Harlow rocked a strapless corset with flared leather pants and sneakers, while Sparrow sported a black polo, jeans and black tennis shoes.
That same month, Richie revealed how she bonds with her daughter over the “drama” the teenager has with her friends.
“When my daughter’s telling me drama with her friends, I go, ‘I remember. Laila Heckmath did that to me.’ I remember first and last names, so it’s fun,” she shared on the “Today” show.
“It’s wild. And just the best.”
In August, Richie revealed she and Harlow are constantly sharing clothes and jewelry.
“We are in each other’s closets,” she told People. “My mom never told me that I couldn’t borrow anything from her closet, so I have that approach with Harlow, too. She takes things of mine, I take things of hers.”
Richie and the Good Charlotte singer have been married since 2010.
