The recreational vehicle-maker said the layoffs were due to the current economic context and forecasts for the coming year.
Quebec-based recreational vehicle-maker BRP has laid off 122 workers at its Valcourt, Sherbrooke and Montreal facilities, the company confirmed Tuesday.
BRP said the layoffs were due to the current economic context and forecasts for the coming year, which will require it to control spending.
“The 2025 fiscal year brought its share of challenges, and we adapted to the difficult environment through the year in order to ensure the company’s continued success,” the maker of Ski-Doo, Sea-Doo and Can-Am recreational vehicles said in an email.
According to a filing with Quebec’s employment ministry, the layoffs took place last month and 60 workers lost their jobs in Montreal, 47 in Valcourt and 15 in Sherbrooke.
BRP, which used to operate as Bombardier Recreational Products, said “the economic situation continues to put pressure on consumer demand” and it expects that situation to continue until the end of the 2025 calendar year.
“We are confident we are making the right decisions that will allow the company to rebound when the economic context improves and to ensure its long-term growth,” BRP said in the statement.
The company is scheduled to present its third-quarter results on Friday.
