Montreal police chase ends with officer injured, teen in custody

Police were verifying Monday morning whether the car used by the suspect was stolen.

A 17-year-old suspect was in police custody early Monday and facing charges of dangerous driving and assaulting a police officer in the wake of a 20-minute pursuit.

Montreal police said the incident began around 3:50 a.m. at the corner of Crémazie Blvd. and Iberville St. in the city’s St-Michel district, when they tried pull over a motorist for dangerous driving. The motorist decided to flee, police said, triggering a chase that saw one officer suffer non-life-threatening injuries.

The chase ended around 4:10 a.m. at the intersection of Langelier and Lavoisier Blvds. in the borough of St-Léonard.

Police said the driver abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

Police were verifying Monday morning whether the car had been stolen.
