After two major late-November snowstorms, Saskatoon rang in December with an additional 8 centimetres of snow.
After two late-November blizzards blanketed much of the province in white, Saskatoon rang in December with an extra few flurries on top.
Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, about eight more centimetres of snow came down in the area, according to the City of Saskatoon.
On Sunday, City and contractor crews were back out on the roads, “focused on getting high speed and high traffic streets and intersections clear.”
These snow clearing efforts will start with the city’s freeways and major arterial routes, including Circle Drive, Idylwyld Drive, 22nd Street and College Drive.
Then, they will tackle the critical double-lane roads and bus routes, including Clarence Avenue, McKercher Drive and Millar Avenue.
Finally, crews will work on school zones, and streets that bring traffic from the arterial roads to businesses and residential areas. These include Louise Avenue, Howell Avenue and Main Street.
While they do their work, the City is reminding drivers to be particularly careful on the roads: After a snowfall like this, and with temperatures still hovering around -20 degrees, “ice treatments such as salt and sand can be less effective and the roads may be slippery.”
