Bixi reports record 13 million rides in 2024

“This record-breaking year underscores how BIXI has become a cornerstone of sustainable mobility,” says city councillor Marianne Giguère.

Bixi Montreal said on Tuesday that it has surpassed 13 million rides in 2024, setting a new record for the bike-sharing service.

The company said the milestone reflects a 15 per cent year-over-year increase in ridership, with July and September accounting for more than 4 million trips combined.

The service said its growing network, which now extends beyond Montreal to include Ste-Julie, helped this year, alongside its hubs in Laval, Longueuil, and Boucherville.

“This record-breaking year underscores how Bixi has become a cornerstone of sustainable mobility,” Bixi’s statement quoted Marianne Giguère, Montreal’s associate councillor for mobility, as saying. “Strategic investments like electric bikes and winter expansions are transforming how citizens travel.”

Bixi also introduced its first maintenance hub at La Fontaine Park this summer, which it said has enabled faster bike repairs and direct interaction with users.

For 2025, the company’s expansion plans include tripling the number of Laval stations to 75 and increasing Longueuil’s network to 64. The organization plans to open three additional hubs in 2025.
