The two occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital after suffering nervous shock.
Two pedestrians in their 60s died Saturday after being struck by a vehicle in St-Théodore-d’Acton, Montérégie.
Emergency services were called to the intersection of Route 139 and 8e Rang, in the municipality located about 35 kilometres from St-Hyacinthe, shortly before 6 p.m.
According to initial information from the Sûreté du Québec, the two pedestrians, a man and a woman, were struck by a vehicle while crossing an unlit portion of Route 139 to get to their vehicle parked in a nearby orchard, said Ève Brochu-Joubert, a spokesperson for the police force.
Resuscitation procedures were undertaken and continued by paramedics, but the deaths of the two pedestrians were confirmed on the scene.
The two occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital after suffering nervous shock. They will be met by police when their condition allows.
“At first glance, there would be no criminal element, but a collision investigator will still go to the scene to understand the causes and circumstances surrounding the event,” Brochu-Joubert said.
