St. John’s drops double-overtime crusher to Baylor at buzzer

NASSAU, Bahamas – Heartbreaking. Crushing. Devastating. 

St. John’s had the game. It had it in the first half. It had in the second overtime.

It threw it away.

Zuby Ejiofor missed two free throws with 4.1 seconds left in the second overtime and Jayden Nunn’s rainbow 3-pointer dropped in at the buzzer, sending the No. 22 Red Storm to a gut punch of a loss in the opening round of the Baha Mar Hoops Championship.

St. John’s blew an 18-point lead in the first half.

It blew a five-point lead in the final five seconds.

It couldn’t make free throws or get a key defensive rebound, and it paid for it in a 99-98 loss to No. 13 Baylor. 

Jeremy Roach’s tiebreaking 3-pointer with 1:48 left in regulation gave Baylor the lead, but he missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Richmond pulled the Johnnies even with a floater in the lane with 7.2 seconds left.

Kadary Richmond forced the second overtime by hitting two free throws with 25.3 left, as St. John’s rallied from a five-point deficit in the final 1:46.
