Credit Matt Gaetz for withdrawing with grace from consideration to be the nation’s next attorney general.
A day after visiting with Republican senators on Capitol Hill, he announced on X that “it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition.”
Gaetz rightly saw a circus coming and potentially endangering other nominees.
Plus, the Trump Justice Department does indeed need to “be in place and ready on Day 1.”
The prez-elect was quick to find a replacement: former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. At first glance, she looks like a markedly better choice.
