‘Shallow Hal’ director takes credit for Gwyneth Paltrow’s unique baby name Apple — here’s why

It turns out that Gwyneth Paltrow’s unique baby name isn’t that unique after all.

The actress, 52, shocked the world when she named her firstborn child with ex-husband Chris Martin Apple in 2004 — but her “Shallow Hal” director believes he knows where the moniker came from.

Brothers Bobby and Peter Farrelly discussed the name Apple during Wednesday’s episode of “The Jess Cagle Show,” where the latter seemingly took credit for Paltrow’s choice simply because he named his daughter that first.

The Farrellys directed the 2001 film “Shallow Hal” starring Jack Black and Paltrow, three years before the actress gave birth to her daughter.

At the time, Peter’s daughter Apple was a toddler. She’s now 22 and Paltrow’s Apple is 20.

“You have a daughter who’s a rising actress, and I was shocked to see that her name is Apple — possibly the original Apple,” the podcast co-host Julia Cunningham said. “I was thinking, did that name seep into Gwyneth Paltrow’s brain during Shallow Hal?”

“Apple was a baby when we did Shallow Hal,” Peter responded about his daughter before joking, “Gwyneth has never given us credit for that.”

The Post has reached out to Paltrow’s rep for comment.

Besides Apple, Paltrow and Martin are also parents to their son, Moses, 18.

The actress married the Coldplay frontman in 2003 and famously coined the catchphrase “conscious uncoupling” when announcing their separation in March 2014.

Paltrow and Martin officially divorced in 2015.

During a March 2019 appearance on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, the actress elaborated on the term by explaining that she wanted a “way to circumvent [pain of divorce] and go directly to the point where we’re friends, and we remember what we loved about each other, and constantly acknowledge that we created these incredible human beings together.”

She added, “We’re a family, that’s it. We can pretend we’re not and hate each other… or, [we can] try to reinvent this for ourselves.”

In 2020, Paltrow addressed her relationship with Martin on the “Today” show, calling him “family” again.

“Even though we’re not in a romantic relationship, we’re a true family and we like to do things to reinforce that we’re a family for the children and for each other,” she said.

Paltrow and Martin have both moved on since their split.

The Oscar winner married Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story” co-creator Brad Falchuk in 2018, and Martin is engaged to actress Dakota Johnson.
