Russian oligarch poised to sell gilded NYC penthouse in an all-cash deal — amid a massive global property sell-off

Billionaire Russian oligarch Valery Kogan, a pal of President Vladimir Putin and the co-owner of Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport, and his wife Olga are in contract to sell their gilded pad at 15 Central Park West, according to StreetEasy. Sources told Gimme Shelter it was an all-cash deal.

The apartment officially hit the market last year for $65 million. It was last asking $39 million. The buyer, we hear, is an older New Yorker.

The property deal is just the latest for the Kogans, who are in the midst of a massive real estate sell-off that began following Putin’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The Kogans have also finally sold their 7-acre Greenwich, Conn., estate on Simmons Lane for $10.4 million — down from its $14.5 million ask as is, or $24.5 million renovated, last year.

They also recently sold a penthouse in Tel Aviv, Israel for $33 million, according to reports.

Last year, the Kogans sold their condo at 515 Park Ave. — where the feds seized sanctioned oligarch Viktor Vekselberg’s two units — for $14.5 million, as Gimme Shelter previously reported. They had first listed it for $25 million in 2020.

Meanwhile, the couple’s ornate palace at the Plaza Hotel is still lingering on the market for $25 million after receiving its latest price chop of $2 million on Nov. 11. It was asking $50 million before the pandemic, Gimme previously reported. The two separate units, 1007 and 1009, total 5,302 square feet and come with a castle-like turret; the sale also includes a 782-square-foot unit across the hall, 1008.

The Kogans are known for their over-the-top spending. In 2013, they paid for a lavish wedding for their 19-year-old granddaughter that included millions paid to stars like Mariah Carey and Elton John to perform, Mark Ronson to DJ and Antonio Banderas to give a speech, according to reports

Over on Central Park West, the Kogans’ 5,398-square-foot penthouse features four bedrooms, and stunning panoramic park and city skyline views. The sale will include a 1,036-square-foot, one-bedroom, 1½-bathroom unit and a 412-square-foot studio, both on the sixth floor.

This aerie boasts a private elevator landing that opens to a marble and onyx entry foyer. Next up is an open living room with a fireplace and large windows, a dining room, a chef’s kitchen and a mahogany-walled office with pocket doors. The main bedroom suite has a spa-like bath with heated floors and a dressing room.

Details also include 13-foot-high ceilings and 10-foot-high windows overlooking Central Park and the Hudson River.

Listing brokers Adam Rothman and Thomas Hochfelder of Douglas Elliman declined to comment.
