What Mets prospects Jett Williams and Drew Gilbert tried to accomplish in the Arizona Fall League

For everything that went right for the Mets in 2024, including their turnaround from an ugly first half to reach the NLCS, one aspect of the organization didn’t go as well as hoped: The development of their top two position-player prospects.

Jett Williams and Drew Gilbert each lost time due to injuries, which slowed their rises through the minor league system.

They hoped to make up for lost time by playing for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League, which concludes this week, and were pleased with being able to get back on the field.

But Williams left Thursday’s game after crashing into the wall trying to make a catch in center field, limping off the field. He reportedly suffered a sprained right ankle that “won’t be a big deal” in the offseason.
