Man shot in car, then dies in crash just steps from NJ emergency room

A man was shot in car driving through New Jersey Tuesday morning, then died in a crash in front of a hospital and steps away from the emergency room, reports said.

Two unidentified victims had been driving near the corner of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Godwin Avenue in Paterson at about 4 a.m. when shots rang out and wounded both of them, according to the Bergen Record.

The bullets struck the men as they rode through the intersection, which has long been a hotspot for gun violence in the Silk City.

It’s not clear if the mortally victim was the driver or passenger — but cops said the driver floored it, heading toward St. Joseph’s University Medical Center where their minivan crashed just outside the emergency room.

The surviving victim — a 27-year-old Paterson native — quickly got out of the car and ran inside, SIlive reported.

But the 21-year-old victim, from Staten Island, was not as lucky — his body was riddled with bullets, and he died at the scene, the outlet said.

Authorities are still investigating the shooting, and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office has asked anyone with information to call its tip line at 877-370-PCPO or email [email protected].

The corner where the two men were shot has been the scene of several drive-bys over the last decade or so, including the 2015 killing of high school basketball star Armoni Sexton, the Record said.

A group of drug-slinging gangbangers known as the “230 Boys” called the notorious corner home until the feds came in, busted them up and convicted most of them, the outlet added.

Things quieted down afterward — but the corner seems to be once more returning to its violent roots.
