Train derailment in Longueuil forces shutdown on Route 116

There were no immediate reports of injuries and motorists are urged to avoid the area around St-Georges and St-Louis Sts.

A train derailment in Longueuil Thursday morning forced the complete shut down of Route 116 (Sir Wilfrid Laurier Blvd.) in Longueuil as local emergency personnel analyzed a possible spill of hydrogen peroxide.

Longueuil police have been deployed at the corner of St-Georges and St-Louis Sts. in the Le Moyne sector of Longueuil to untangle traffic in the wake of a derailment that occurred around 9 a.m. at the CN yards that run parallel to the highway.

Police are working in concert with Longueuil firefighters and CN.

There were no immediate reports of injuries and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
