Three major motorways hit by crashes and car fire causing rush hour chaos

Three major motorways are facing severe delays this morning after two crashes and a car fire.

There’s been a crash on the M1 southbound between junction 18 for Rugby and 17 for Coventry which is causing major tailbacks.

On the M6, three out of four lanes are closed northbound between junction 6 and 7 for Birmingham after a crash.

Drivers are facing 45-minute delays there as queues stretch back for about five miles on the approach.

And on the M5, there’s one lane closed southbound between junction 7 for Worcester and 8 for the M50 due to a car fire.

This is also causing 45-minute delays.

Man dies and another left with ‘life changing injuries’ after M18 crashes

A road has reopened on the M18 after two crashes left one man dead and another with life-changing injuries.

South Yorkshire Police said emergency services were called to reports of a collision near junction 6 on the southbound carriageway involving five vehicles yesterday morning at 10.43am.

They said that despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the driver of one vehicle, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The M18 was closed in both directions between junction 6 and 7 while officers conducted their work but has since been reopened.

Humberside Police meanwhile said a red Scania HGV and white DAF HGV were involved in a collision on the M18 southbound between, junction 7 to 6 near to Greenlands Lane at around 11.35am.

The driver of the red Scania was taken to hospital to receive medical treatment for potentially life changing injuries.

Following the collision, the road remained closed for several hours to allow officers to conduct initial lines of enquiry and recover the two vehicles.

The police said in a statement: ‘We’d like to thank members of the public for their patience whilst this was carried out, the road has now reopened.

‘We are continuing with enquiries to establish the exact circumstances leading up to the collision and we are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time or saw the vehicles prior to the collision, or has dashcam footage, to please contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 177 of 13 November.’

Another M6 lane reopens

Another lane has reopened on the M6 northbound, meaning just one out of four is currently closed.

There are still delays of over an hour on the approach.

All lanes reopen on M5

The M5 is now fully reopened southbound between junction 7 for Worcester and 8 for the M50 after a car fire.

Residual delays should start easing now.

45-minute delays on M180 after crash

Drivers are stuck in three mile queues after a crash on the M180.

The road is blocked westbound between junction 5 for the A180 and 4 for the A15.

This is adding about 45 minutes onto normal journey times.

All lanes have reopened on the M1 southbound after a crash between junction 18 and 17.

While the congestion clears up drivers are still facing hour-long delays, but this should start easing now.

Signal fault between Aylesbury Vale Parkway and Amersham

There’s been a fault with the signalling system at Great Missenden which has caused delays on the lines between Aylesbury Vale Parkway and Amersham.

This is impacting Chiltern Railways services.

While lines have reopened after being closed temporarily, passengers could still face delays of up to 20 minutes.

The disruption is expected to last until 10am.

Disruption between Selby and Doncaster for fourth day

The ongoing disruption to Hull Trains and LNER services between Selby and Doncaster has entered its fourth day.

A points failure in the Selby area is causing disruption to journeys between the two stations.

Network Rail engineers are still working on a fix, but ‘significant repairs’ to the faulty points are required.

Hull Trains and LNER services between Selby and Doncaster will be cancelled, revised or diverted via Goole. Trains won’t be stopping at Howden and Selby.

The issue is expected to last until the end of the week.

Northern and TransPennine Express services that run through Selby are unaffected by this disruption.
