Richard Madeley has revealed he and his wife Judy Finnigan sleep in separate beds, after 38 years of marriage.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 68, shared an insight into his marriage with his former This Morning co-host, 76, in a recent podcast.

The couple married in 1986 and welcomed their son that year, and daughter Chloe the following year, before hosting the ITV programme together from 1988 for more than a decade.

They quickly grew to become one of TV’s strongest couples, but Richard has now shared what happens behind closed doors.

Speaking to Kate Thornton on her White Wine Question Time podcast, Richard said: ‘When I’m doing Good Morning Britain I sleep in the spare room.’

He added: ‘I do probably sleep a little bit better in bed with Judy but it’s okay on my own.’

Richard explained that he wouldn’t want his early morning starts to disrupt his wife’s sleep, saying: ‘I wouldn’t think of doing that to Judy.

‘Apart from anything else, Judy and her sleep, you do not mess with.’

He went on to talk about how his wife is ‘really enjoying not doing telly’, following her own admission that she would never appear on This Morning again.

This comes after he revealed last year that a pest problem had forced Judy into the spare bedroom after mice came crawling out into their room at night.

Despite not sleeping in the same bed anymore, Richard and Judy have been branded inseparable by their daughter, who claimed that it wasn’t ‘normal’ that he parents do everything together.

The former Dancing On Ice star said: ‘I grew up watching my parents do everything together. It took me a really long time to realise that’s not normal.’

Chloe added that watching her parents’ relationship had an impact on her expectations, and spoke about how she knew she ‘wouldn’t come first’ with former partner James Haskell because of his rugby career.

Chloe, 36, and James, 38, split ‘amicably’ last year, saying their ‘sole focus’ would be on co-parenting their daughter.
