Fatigue may have been the cause of a fatal crash in La Conception

“The driver, a man in his 30s, does not appear to have been wearing his seatbelt,” police said. “He was ejected from the vehicle.”

LA CONCEPTION — Fatigue may have played a role in a crash that left one person dead early Sunday and three injured in La Conception, a municipality near Mont-Tremblant Park in the Laurentians.

A vehicle with four people aboard was travelling north on Route 117 when it left the road shortly after midnight. Emergency services were alerted at about 12:30 a.m.

“Based on initial information, the driver, who was heading north, lost control of the vehicle, which veered toward the median before rolling over several times and ending up on the south side of the road,” said Camille Savoie, a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).

“The driver, a man in his 30s, does not appear to have been wearing his seatbelt,” she said. “He was ejected from the vehicle.”

The driver was taken to hospital, where his death was declared.

The three passengers in the vehicle suffered injuries that are considered minor, Savoie said.

Route 117 near the crash site was closed for a few hours and an SQ officer trained in accident reconstruction was called to the scene “to understand the causes and circumstances of this event,” Savoie said.

She said fatigue may have played a role in the event, something that will need to be confirmed by the SQ investigation.
