From the Bear to the Boss.
The first look photo has been released of Emmy-winning “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White playing Bruce Springsteen.
White, 33, will star as Springsteen, 75, in the upcoming biopic “Deliver Me From Nowhere,” which will be set in the ‘80s. The movie does not yet have an announced premiere date.
The photo shows White in a leather jacket and flannel shirt with ruffled hair, in one of Springsteen’s signature looks.
Directed and written by Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”), “Deliver Me From Nowhere” is an adaptation of a book of the same name by Warren Zanes.
The story is about the making of “Nebraska,” Springsteen’s 1982 album.
“There’s just so much footage,” White told GQ.
“It’s really great to go down a YouTube rabbit hole and find him at all these different periods in his life and be able to listen to his speaking voice as well as his singing voice. That’s kind of been the deal, just listening to him a lot and watching him a lot. It’s been really fun preparing.”
This isn’t White’s first time playing a real-life figure, as he also starred in the 2023 film “The Iron Claw” as the now-deceased wrestler Kerry Von Erich.
Per a press release about the movie, “Nebraska” is regarded “as a landmark in his musical odyssey and a source of inspiration for a generation of artists and musicians… ‘Nebraska’ is considered one of Springsteen’s most enduring works — a raw, haunted acoustic record populated by lost souls searching for a reason to believe.”
“Nebraska” doesn’t include some of Springsteen’s most famous hits such as “Born to Run” and “Born in the U.S.A.,” but it has songs such as “Highway Patrolman” and “Johnny 99.”
Stephen Graham will play Springsteen’s father, Paul Walter Hauser will play guitar tech Mike Batlan and Odessa Young is rumored to play a love interest.
This would be a love interest before Springsteen’s wife and bandmate, Patti Scialfa, 71, since the couple tied the knot in 1991.
“Succession” star Jeremy Strong has been rumored to play Springsteen’s manager, Jon Landau, according to Variety. But that hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.
“It’s a lovely cast and I am involved a little,” Springsteen said earlier this month on “The Graham Norton Show.”
“This is not easy to do because you can’t do an imitation, you have to do a personal interpretation,” he continued. “It’s difficult but he is a great actor and sings pretty good.”
He previously opened up about the script to Rolling Stone.
“I’ve seen the scripts and I’ve talked to the director. They’re just putting it all together, so I don’t have an awful lot to say about it, but I’m excited about it happening,” the musician said. “It’ll be an interesting story. … I feel good about the whole project.”
While White was in Showtime’s long-running “Shameless” for a decade from 2011-2021, his star has been on the rise more recently, as he’s starred as troubled chef Carmy in the awards darling FX/Hulu show “The Bear.”
“I’m really lucky that there’s sort of a team of folks now in place to help young actors portray rock stars,” White told GQ in a recent interview.
“I’ve got a really talented group of people helping me train vocally, musically, to get ready for this thing.”
He also said that he’s met Springsteen and the real rocker is “really supportive of the project.”
White added, “I’ve had some access to him and he’s just the greatest guy.”
