HelloFresh is bringing a new meaning to “friendsgiving.”
The meal kit company is bringing an iconic sitcom’s Thanksgiving episode to life for the holiday while honoring the 30th anniversary of “Friends.”
In a flashback to the beloved series’ Season 6 Episode 9, titled “The One Where Ross Got High,” the limited-edition meal kit will let customers recreate the infamous shepherd’s pie-meets-English trifle recipe that was hilariously botched by Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston).
“’Friends’ is an iconic show, and the Thanksgiving episodes are especially memorable, so recreating Rachel’s English trifle-meets-shepherd’s pie mashup was an exciting culinary challenge for us,” Michelle Doll Olson, senior culinary development manager at HelloFresh U.S., said in a statement.
Many fans may recall Ross Geller (David Schwimmer) exclaiming that Rachel’s concoction “tastes like feet!” and Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) arguing that he enjoyed it because, “What’s not to like? Custard, good. Jam, good. Meat, good!” –
But there’s no need to worry about a feet-tasting feast with the meal kit, created in partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery.
The kit comes with a custom trifle dish that’s designed to keep the savory ingredients strategically separated from the sweet ones — that is, unless you want it the Joey way.
“Drawing inspiration from the original dish, our goal was to capture the humor and fun of the episode while ensuring the recipe is still tasty. Whether you choose to enjoy each recipe on its own or bravely mix them together, this sweet and savory dish is sure to be a hit at your FRIENDSgiving this year!” Doll Olson added.
Along with the custom trifle dish ingredients, customers will receive step-by-step recipe cards to create two different recipes: beef shepherd’s pie and a classic English trifle.
Using the trifle dish with a center divider, the recipes can be made and served side-by-side, giving fans a choice to keep them separated or try the Tribiani treat.
The meal kit also comes with a “Freinds”-themed apron for fans to wear while serving up the dish.
“At HelloFresh, we know our customers like to have fun in the kitchen and are big fans of the beloved sitcom ‘Friends,’” Kirsten Walpert, vice president of brand and creative for HelloFresh U.S., said in a statement. “That’s why we’re excited to bring this memorable dish to life, which will help ‘Friends’ fans enjoy a unique and delicious cooking experience while celebrating with loved ones this holiday season.”
Rachel Green’s trifle kits serve six hungry diners and will be available to purchase starting at 9 a.m. ET Monday, Nov. 4, through HelloFreshFriendsTrifle.com for $34.99 plus free shipping.
