Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye is out for the rest of Sunday’s game against the Jets in Foxborough with a head injury, head coach Jerod Mayo told CBS, and he was being evaluated for a concussion.
Maye, 22, left the game in the second quarter after recording his first career rushing touchdown in the first quarter.
Veteran Jacoby Brissett took over at quarterback for New England.
Brissett, in his second stint with the Patriots, began the season as the starter after the team selected Maye with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Patriots stunned the Bengals in Week 1 for rookie head coach Mayo’s first victory after taking over for Bill Belichick, but New England lost its next four games, scoring just 46 points during that stretch.
Maye got his first career start on Oct. 13 against the Texans, going 20-for-33 with 243 yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions and a lost fumble in a 41-21 loss.
In last week’s London loss to the Jaguars, Maye went 26-for-37 with 276 yards, two touchdowns and no turnovers.
He was 3-for-6 with 23 yards on Sunday before leaving the game.
The Jets led 13-7 at halftime, with Aaron Rodgers throwing short touchdowns to Tyler Conklin and Xavier Gipson.
