Kennesaw State fans got little too excited storming field before monumental upset of Liberty

It was a win so nice that the fans got to storm the field twice.

Kennesaw State pulled off arguably the biggest upset of the college football season on Wednesday night when it handed previously undefeated Liberty its first loss of the season.

The night was only bolstered by the fact that the Owls, which came into the game winless, earned the program’s first FBS victory ever in the 27-24 win over the Flames.

Though the fans were plenty juiced up for the historic moment at Kennesaw State, perhaps they were a little too overzealous when they stormed the field in celebration a second early.

There was still roughly one tick left on the clock when it appeared as though the game was over, and fans poured onto the field.

Nevertheless, the game wasn’t over and Liberty was able to get one more play down by three points.

Liberty seemed to make a half-hearted attempt at going for a win, with QB Kaidon Salter throwing a short pass to Julian Gray, who fumbled it as he attempted to pitch it back to a teammate.

Gray picked up the ball but was tackled to the ground to end the game.

That allowed the fans the chance to run back onto the field to celebrate for a second time.

What made the victory so impressive was that Liberty had been undefeated and had been a 25.5-point favorite against a team that moved into the FBS this season.

It also was the first time in 23 years that a team with a 0-5 record toppled a team that had been 5-0 or better, according to ESPN.

“I could not be more proud of that group of young men,” Kennesaw State coach Brian Bohannon said. “The coaches, the staff, persevered through some tough times.

“Came out here and fought our tails off here tonight. How about them freakin Owls baby!”
