This Too Shall Pass, Calgary’s Troy Greenwood, Emily Howard among winners at 50th annual Rosie Awards

The 50th annual Rosie Awards were handed out on Saturday, Oct. 19 during two shows, one in the afternoon at Yuk Yuk’s Calgary and an evening show at the Westin Hotel. A total of 54 awards were handed out in class and craft categories. Class awards are for productions that were produced or co-produced by an Alberta production company, while craft categories are for craftspeople in the industry who were a resident of Alberta this year.

This Too Shall Pass, a Calgary-shot coming-of-age comedy directed by Rob Grant, picked up the win for best scripted feature, made-for-TV-movie, or made-for-OTT, scripted series or speciality cable networks. Calgary’s Troy Greenwood won in the best performance – male or non-binary category for his role in the short film, Low. Calgary’s Emily Howard one for best performance – female or nonbinary for her role in the western A Cowboy Against Thunder. Calgarians who won multiple awards include Julian Black Antelope, who won for best host of a web program, series or stand-alone production and best screenwriter for a documentary under 30 minutes for Secret History: Women Warriors; and Calgary filmmaker Trevor Solway, whose Tales from the Rez won Best Production Reflecting Cultural Diversity. He also won for best screenwriter for a scripted series under 30 minutes.
