Liam Neeson has confirmed that he plans to step back from action films and retire his ‘particular set of skills’.
The 72-year-old actor is known for his action films including the smash hit Taken franchise and other gritty dramas including The Grey and Star Wars.
Although the actor is best known as an action superstar who does nearly all of his own stunts, he’s revealed that he is ready to put his action days behind him.
‘I’m 72 – it has to stop at some stage,’ the actor told People. ‘You can’t fool audiences. I don’t want Mark [his longtime stunt collaborator Mark Vanselow] to be fighting my fight scenes for me.’
The actor added that he’s thinking 2025 might be the year that he officially steps back.
‘Maybe the end of next year. I think that’s it,’ he disclosed.
Speaking to People, the actor also reflected on his late wife, Natasha Richardson’s death.
‘It was a horrible thing to happen,’ he said, reflecting on his wife’s death in 2009 after a skiing accident on holiday.
He revealed that his sister-in-law and mother-in-law were quick to help Liam raise his two sons, Micheál and Daniel, who are now 29 and 28, respectively.
‘Everybody just pulled together. Vanessa and Joely were extraordinary,’ he said. ‘We were fortunate in lots of ways.’
Liam recently received huge praise for his appearance in Netflix’s In the Land of Saints and Sinners.
The high-octane thriller gripped audiences with many branding it the ‘Irish Avengers,’ after it landed on the streaming platform.
The actor has been extremely busy over the past few years and has acted in several films that are in post-production.
In 2025 he is set to star in The Naked Gun as Frank Drebin Jr. His other projects including Thug, Cold Storage, and The Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky, have yet to have an announced release date.
