Rams dangle Cooper Kupp on the trade block in telling sign

Cooper Kupp could be on the move.

The Rams “have called multiple teams” to discuss the idea of trading the star wide receiver, according to The Athletic.

The report added that the team has “indicated a willingness to take on some of the ‘24 salary and are seeking a 2nd round pick.”

Kupp suffered a high ankle sprain during the Rams’ second game of the season against the Cardinals on Sept. 15.

He has been out since then, but is expected to make his return for the team’s game on Thursday against the Vikings after he was a full participant in practice on Monday.

Speaking with reporters on Monday, Rams head coach Sean McVay was coy about whether Kupp will be on a limited workload in this week’s game.

“That’ll be something that as we’re putting it together and really diving into it, we’ll have a better feel for, but definitely excited to have him back,” McVay said.

The best season of Kupp’s career was in 2021-22, when he led the NFL in receiving yards and touchdowns, and won the AP Offensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl MVP.

When healthy, the 31-year-old Kupp is still a dynamic threat.

In Week 1 of this year, he caught 14 balls for 110 yards and a touchdown in an overtime loss against the Lions.

In that game, the Rams’ other top receiving threat — Puka Nacua — suffered a knee injury and has yet to return.

Those injuries have slowed a Rams offense that was explosive last season when they made a surprising trip to the playoffs.

The Rams are currently 2-4 and in last place in the NFC West. Even with a veteran at QB in Matthew Stafford, trading Kupp would be a clear signal that they are rebuilding for next season.

Contending teams that could use a top receiver include the Steelers, Ravens, Chiefs and Bucs.

The NFL trade deadline is at 4pm E.T. on Nov. 5.
