A multi-vehicle crash on Peigan Trail S.E. sent seven people to hospital on Monday morning in Calgary.
EMS and Calgary police responded to the incident around 7:10 a.m. on Monday. Medical officials were informed of a crash involving as many as 10 vehicles, both passenger and commercial.
EMS confirmed it transported seven patients from the multi-vehicle incident to hospital.
EMS initially transported six people to hospital, four in stable condition and two in serious condition.
Medics returned to the scene for an additional patient who identified themself to police after EMS had left with the other six patients. The seventh patient was transported to hospital in stable condition.
An EMS spokesperson said delayed injury identification is typical, as some patients may initially reject assistance but later realize it is necessary, or do not notice injuries immediately.
As of 11:15 a.m., eastbound and westbound Peigan Trail S.E remains closed between Stoney Trail and 52 Street S.E., and is expected to be closed for several hours, police said in a statement.
An investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.
