Singer Lizzo made what many thought was a car-sized gaffe while stumping for Vice-President Kamala Harris.

The pop star was in Detroit for a rally on Saturday, when she and Harris lauded the city after former president Donald Trump slammed it last week.

“I mean, the whole country is going to be like — you want to know the truth — it’ll be like Detroit,” the Republican presidential candidate said at the Detroit Economic Club. “Our whole country will end up being like Detroit.”

The singer brought up the former president’s comments — but put a positive spin on it.

“I’m so proud to be from this city. You know, they say if Kamala wins, then the whole country will be like Detroit. Proud like Detroit. Resilient like Detroit,” Lizzo said as the crowd cheered.

“This is the same Detroit that innovated the auto industry and the music industry. So put some respect on Detroit’s name.”

Social media had a field day with the Truth Hurts singer’s praise, pointing out that Detroit has been declining for decades.

“Lizzo said, ‘If Kamala wins, the whole country will be like Detroit,’ as she spoke at Kamala rally in Michigan. Does anyone else see a problem with that, or just me?” one account posted.

Another wrote: “If Kamala is elected the whole country will look like Detroit. A decimated car industry. A top ten city in crime statistics.”

A third user added, “Regardless of Lizzo’s strenuous efforts to spin it, all that will be ringing in people’s subconscious is: ‘Kamala will turn America into impoverished, run down, and unsafe, Detroit.’”

A fourth person commented: “So Lizzo just told us the entire country will go to hell just like Detroit if we vote for Kamala!”

One commenter joked: “That was a Trump endorsement if I’ve ever heard one. Lol.”

The singer burst into her song About Damn Time during the event after urging Michigan residents to get out and vote as the city’s first day of early voting began.

Harris added: “And what I think we all know is, on Election Day, we don’t want to have any regrets about what we could have done these next 17 days, and on Nov. 5.”

She told reporters: “Donald Trump has proven himself to be increasingly unstable and unfit and he is trying to take us backward.”
