With the unveiling of its first 10 show homes, the new community of Southbow Landing in Cochrane is now in full swing.

Located on the town’s south side, just east of Highway 22, the 545-acre master-planned development offers exceptional natural amenities, including significant green spaces comprised of four parks — the 1.5-acre Central Park, designed by LA West Landscape Architecture, is already complete. There’s an environmental reserve, and there are more than five kilometres of walking trails linking it all together and leading to the water’s edge and the town’s established trail system.

“Southbow Landing truly offers the best of both worlds. It allows people to live at a slower pace in the small community of Cochrane, while still being able to enjoy the amenities of the big city nearby,” says Monica Bilyk, marketing and communications manager for Qualico Communities, the developer behind the community, noting that the community’s location provides easy access to the city of Calgary and to Cochrane’s core.

The southern edge of Southbow Landing nudges the town’s limit, while parts of its northern boundary skiff the shores of the Bow River. Three school sites, and a commercial node, developed by Developments Two, slated to provide a spate of amenities from grocery stores to coffee shops, restaurants and retail, complete the development package.

New show homes include attached front-drive garage single-family, attached front-drive garage duplex, and laned duplex home designs by the builder group of Broadview Homes, Daytona Homes, Douglas Homes, Sterling Homes, Jayman Built and Trico Homes.

“There are a wide variety of housing options at very affordable rates — homes start from the low $500,000s — which may allow families in Calgary, who are looking to purchase their first home, the opportunity to do so just outside of the city,” says Bilyk.

But it’s not just the affordability that makes these homes stand out, it’s also great design.

Daytona Homes recently unveiled The Austyn, a double, front-attached garage, two-storey home with more than 2,200 square feet of living space, with a main floor den, central bonus room and second-floor tech space. It also opened a pair of double front-attached garage duplex show homes with plenty of living space: The Breeze (1,874 sq.-ft. and a legal basement suite), and The Canyon 2 (1,916 sq. ft.).

Laned Homes include Broadview Homes’ 1,717-sq.-ft. Concord, with three bedrooms, 2½ bathrooms and a modern, open-concept layout, and the Fernie 3 by Douglas Homes, a corner lot laned home spanning more than 1,500 sq. ft. with a spa-style ensuite and a versatile flex room with french doors.

NuVista Homes and Sterling Homes have unveiled two front-attached garage homes, the Sutton and the Denali 7, respectively. And, Sterling is also showcasing two duplex designs with attached garages and a private backyard, the Valmore 3, a three-bedroom, two-storey open-concept plan, and the Walker, a 1,164-sq.-ft. bungalow design with main floor primary suite and two secondary bedrooms on the lower level.

Trico Homes’ modern, open-concept design, The Harrington, features a chef-inspired kitchen, a large great room with a fireplace, a second-floor bonus room, a mudroom with built-in lockers and a dog wash station, and a stunning open-to-above plan, allowing plenty of natural light to flood the three-bedroom, front-attached garage single-family home. The finished lower-level offers an additional 600 sq. ft. of living space with an additional bedroom and full bath.
