Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface escaped with minor injuries after he was involved in a car crash on Saturday.

The Nigeria international scored Leverkusen’s winning goal in their 2-1 victory at home to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga earlier in the day.

But the 23-year-old was taken to hospital in the evening after the Mercedes he was travelling in was involved in a major incident.

Leverkusen have said that Boniface is ‘fine’ and that the striker has only suffered minor injuries to his hand.

A source close to Boniface told German newspaper Bild that the striker is ‘doing well considering the circumstances and is only slightly injured’.

Boniface uploaded multiple photographs and a video of his smashed Mercedes on Instagram.

He also took a picture of his hand which was covered in blood, as well as a selfie from the hospital which was captioned: ‘Thank you lord.’

On Sunday, Boniface wrote on social media ‘god is the greatest’ and ‘god says my time hasn’t come’.

It’s understood that Boniface was not driving the Mercedes, but was en route to Frankfurt airport to pick up friends.

Leverkusen are due to play away to French side Brest in the Champions League this Wednesday.
