Death of five-year-old girl on Wabamun Lake a ‘criminal investigation’: RCMP

Mounties are now looking for witnesses after learning the canoe “did not capsize and is continuing to treat this fatal incident as a criminal investigation”

Mounties west of Edmonton have released new information in the death of a five-year-old girl pulled from Wabamun Lake on Sunday, and say they’re treating the incident as a criminal matter.

The girl was pronounced dead on scene.

Mounties are now looking for witnesses after learning the canoe “did not capsize and is continuing to treat this fatal incident as a criminal investigation,” a Thursday news release said.

People who were in the area between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday who may have been witnesses to the drowning or who may have drone footage of the area are asked to call Parkland RCMP at 825-220-2000.
