Attack injures three in Bellerive Park

Witnesses said an altercation had escalated in the park between several people.

A man is in critical condition following an armed assault Thursday evening in the Mercier neighbourhood of Montreal.

According to Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant, a 911 call around 8:10 p.m. reported an armed assault in Bellerive Park, on Notre-Dame St., near St-Donat St.

On scene, emergency services discovered three victims. A 47-year-old man and a 31-year-old man had suffered non-life-threatening injuries. However, the third victim, a 39-year-old man, had suffered serious injuries to the upper body from an object and had to be taken to a hospital, where his condition was considered critical.

Constable Brabant said that, according to initial information gathered from various witnesses, an altercation had escalated in the park between several people. During the conflict, three men were allegedly assaulted by another man who allegedly used a blunt object.

The suspect then allegedly left in a vehicle in a direction that remains unknown for the moment, according to the SPVM.

A security perimeter was set up around Bellerive Park and investigators were sent to the scene to analyze the scene and meet with witnesses to the event in order to understand the circumstances surrounding this assault. The canine squad was also called in.

The SPVM said no arrests had been made Thursday evening. An investigation has been launched.
