‘Law & Order’ star Christopher Meloni says Canali cashmere is the next best thing to being naked

For 90 years, Canali has been fashion’s soft power. The Italian heritage house, founded in 1934 by brothers Giovanni and Giacomo Canali, embraces a supple approach to clothing and an environmentally friendly supply chain.

Equally soft is its famed cashmere, shaped into cosy sweaters and cut into impeccable suits and coats.

“Wearing cashmere is second best to being nude,” “Law & Order: Organized Crime” star Christopher Meloni told Alexa at the company’s 90th Anniversary cocktail party inside Glass House Bryant Park on Tuesday night. He added that he was wearing “full-blown Canali with Northeast flair.”

Rupert Friend, who is filming the upcoming “Jurassic World Rebirth,” was also wearing head-to-toe Canali. “It’s a very, very soft suit that feels like bridging between summer and winter,” said the actor. “I like wearing a suit for incongruous reasons,” he continued. “I like wearing a suit to get pizza at home on a Tuesday.”

To celebrate its big anniversary, the house unveiled a capsule showcasing two of the house’s most iconic pieces: the overcoat and the suit. Their fabrics — including lighter versions of an archival worsted wool and a water-treated blend — were developed exclusively for the drop.

“At Canali, gentleness is a philosophy and it originates together with respect from the family values that shape the essence of our brand,” president and CEO Stefano Canali, a member of the third generation to steer the company, told Alexa. “When it comes to design and construction of a garment, our aim is to strike the perfect balance between structure and softness. This is achieved through meticulous craftsmanship, where each piece is tailored using the finest materials — such as luxurious wool, silk and cashmere blends — that naturally lend themselves to a gentle feel.

“These materials have been thoughtfully applied not only to suits and overcoats but also to our accessories, including bags and sneakers,” says Canali.

The palette combines sophisticated shades of grey with Brianza green. “[This is] a signature hue that highlights our deep connection to territory,” the CEO noted, referring to the leafy area in Italy northwest of Lombardy, between Milan and Lake Como, where the company is headquartered.

Canali’s 90th anniversary capsule is made in Italy of the finest materials.

The capsule includes elegant accessories, such as this weekend duffle bag.

The six-look collection also features luxurious five-pocket jeans in cashmere-blend denim, a braided and ribbed cashmere cardigan, an extra-fine shaved cashmere button-down shirt and drawstring trousers in cotton and wool, among other must-haves. Each made-in-Italy piece has “Canali90th” embroidered in the selvage and a swan-carrying-an-overcoat logo.
