Liam Payne’s destroyed hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina, was filled with drug paraphernalia when he fell to his death on Wednesday.
According to photos verified by the South American country’s biggest newspaper, La Nacion, the former One Direction singer’s third-floor room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel had a smashed television, a half-filled champagne glass and foil and powder scattered.
On a desk, Payne had an empty Dove soap packet, a burning candle, a burnt soda can top and a piece of aluminum foil.
There were also traces of a white powder that authorities will test to confirm suspicions it could be cocaine, La Nacion reported.
Per the outlet, there was wax and burnt foil in the bathtub.
Payne died on Wednesday after falling from his third-floor hotel room. He was 31.
Buenos Aires police said in a statement that the “Night Changes” singer’s fall resulted in “extremely serious injuries,” including fracturing his skull.
Medical staffers declared Payne dead at the scene.
Pablo Policicchio, a spokesperson for the Security Ministry of the Buenos Aires municipality, told the Associated Press that the singer-songwriter had “thrown himself from the balcony of his room.”
Before Payne’s death, cops had been dispatched to the hotel to an emergency call reporting an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” Policicchio shared.
Payne reportedly smashed his laptop and had to be carried back to his room in the moment leading up to his passing.
Officers who were on the scene reportedly later heard a thud and discovered the “X Factor” alum’s body in the hotel courtyard.
Payne arrived in Argentina on Sept. 30 with his girlfriend of two years, Kate Cassidy.
However, she fled the country Monday and the “What Makes You Beautiful” musician later checked into CasaSur Palermo alone.
Tributes poured in for Payne after news of his death surfaced online.
Paris Hilton wrote on X, “So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne passing. Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend.”
Payne’s “Get Low” collaborator Zedd mourned the singer on X, writing, “RIP Liam… I can’t believe this is real… absolutely heartbreaking.”
