15-year-old arrested after allegedly driving past police stop

SQ says teen blew past police stop in a large SUV only to abandon the vehicle on foot.

A 15-year-old alleged to have blown past a police stop in a large SUV only to abandon the vehicle on foot was arrested Saturday morning, Sûreté du Québec police say.

The boy is alleged to have failed to stop at a police checkpoint on Highway 15, but eventually had to stop the vehicle after a mat of nails laid by police deflated his tires. Police say they found the vehicle empty but arrested the suspect some hours later.

The teen has been charged with dangerous driving, receiving a stolen vehicle and obstructing police work. He also received a notice of offence for driving without a licence and committing an action likely to endanger the life or safety of a person or property.

“Speed is one of the leading causes of deadly collisions on Quebec roads,” the SQ said in a statement.
