Man is dead after armed assault at Guy-Concordia métro station

The victim, 37, was attacked with a sharp object on the métro platform on Saturday night, police said.

A man has died of his injuries following an altercation with another man on a platform of the Guy-Concordia métro station overnight Saturday.

This was the 29th murder of 2024 on the island of Montreal.

“At about 11:20 p.m., a 37-year-old man was attacked in the upper body with a sharp object” on the platform for the métro heading toward the Honoré-Beaugrand terminus, Montreal police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant said on Sunday morning.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

No arrests have been made to date, but investigators with the major crimes section are working on the file to determine the causes and circumstances surrounding the event, Brabant said.

Métro service at the Guy-Concordia station, which had been suspended, was resumed Sunday morning, but the métro entrance at St-Mathieu St. and de Maisonneuve Blvd. W. remained closed: The métro entrance at Guy St. and and de Maisonneuve is open to passengers.

A command post has been set up and de Maisonneuve was closed to vehicular traffic between Guy and St-Matheiu. The bicycle path and the sidewalk remain accessible.
